Wisconsin Maine coon sets cat toe record with 29 digits

A Maine coon cat in Wisconsin has earned a place in the Guinness World Records after officials counted 29 toes on his paws. Named Erebus Anomaly, the cat belongs to Kendra Vandenbloomer and Hunter Nett, who operate the Blue Northern Maine Coons breeding business. According to UPI Odd News, the owners began suspecting Erebus could be a record-holder when he was born. The 29 toes give Erebus 11 more than the standard number for a domesticated feline. His unusual anatomy is linked to polydactyly, a genetic trait that causes cats to develop extra toes. The trait is commonly found in Maine coons, but Erebus’s total is the largest ever documented, according to the report. His record surpasses the previous mark of 28 toes, set by a Canadian cat named Jake in 2002. Earlier in 2026, a kitten from a Michigan family named Toby tied that record before Erebus’s count moved the benchmark higher. Erebus’s record is based on the number of digits counted on his feet, rather than on a trick or trained behavior. Guinness World Records recognized him after the 29 toes were documented.
