New Guinea Snake Named for Guns N’ Roses Guitarist Slash

A newly classified snake from New Guinea has been named after Slash, the Guns N’ Roses guitarist born Saul Hudson. According to Neatorama, the snake’s scientific name is Lielaphis slashi. It is a nocturnal groundsnake with a red-brown body and a cream-colored underside. The species reportedly went unnoticed by herpetologists for years because it did not have physical features that made it easy to distinguish from other snakes. Its formal classification has now given it a connection to the musician known for performing under the name Slash. The report does not indicate that the snake’s appearance or behavior was chosen specifically to resemble the guitarist. It does note that the animal might have been easier to identify if it had worn Slash’s trademark top hat.
