Detroit Animal Control Captures One of Two Pigs Roaming Neighborhood

A pig that had been wandering through a Detroit neighborhood was captured after an extended pursuit, while a second pig remains unaccounted for. Residents in the Hendricks Street area said the male and female pigs first appeared Monday. According to UPI, neighbor Johnnie Beals told WDIV-TV that residents recorded the animals and were able to pet them when they approached. The female pig was briefly captured by residents but later released. The male became a more familiar presence in the neighborhood, with resident Christopher Lompra saying he left food out for it and that the pig regularly came to his doorstep. Detroit Animal Care and Control officers responded Wednesday. They spent more than an hour pursuing the male pig before finally cornering it in a bush and capturing it. Officials said the animal will be placed in a new home, potentially at a rescue, sanctuary or farm. The female pig's whereabouts were still unknown, according to the report.
