New Jersey Transit workers recover wedding ring flushed down train toilet

A New Jersey woman has recovered her wedding ring after accidentally flushing it down the toilet of an NJ Transit train. Julie Angelicola realized the ring was missing shortly after leaving the train’s bathroom. She told WPVI-TV that she had been cleaning soap from her hands with toilet paper and, while trying to do so quickly, discarded the crumpled paper in the toilet before flushing. After noticing the ring was gone, Angelicola reported the loss to NJ Transit. The agency took the train out of service so employees could search for the jewelry. According to UPI Odd News, workers placed the train on jacks, removed the toilet tank and opened it. They found Angelicola’s ring resting on top inside the tank. The ring was returned to her Monday at an NJ Transit Customer Service Center. Angelicola said it has substantial sentimental value. The piece is believed to date to 1905 and was purchased at an antique store. She later discovered that the initials engraved inside matched the nicknames she and her husband use for each other.
