Daily Weird News Report

A routine stop at a Wyoming credit union turned into an unusual vehicle-recovery operation after a bull snake crawled beneath a woman’s car and disappeared into its frame. Stephanie Watson said she was in the drive-through at Grand Altitude Federal Credit Union in Riverton at about 2 p.m. Monday when she noticed another woman trying to drive a snake away from her vehicle. The snake appeared to be at least 3 feet long, according to UPI Odd News. The other woman later told Watson that the bull snake had gone under the car and moved upward into the frame, just beyond the passenger-side wheel well. Watson got out of the vehicle with her chihuahua, Poe, while a bank manager moved the car and contacted the Riverton Police Department. Animal Control Officer Shannon Sanderson responded with Police Chief Eric Hurtado. Officers made several attempts to reach the snake, but the narrow opening prevented them from getting a firm hold of it. Workers from nearby Fremont Motors then joined the effort. They first used a jack to raise the car, but the snake remained difficult to access. The vehicle was eventually taken to the dealership, where it could be placed on a car lift. That extra clearance allowed the rescuers to grab the snake when it poked its head out. The bull snake was removed from the car and relocated to the wild at Big Bend ponds outside Riverton. Hurtado said the snake had been unwilling to let go of the vehicle, while the police department described the animal on Facebook as a suspected trespasser that refused to cooperate before being apprehended. Watson, who told Cowboy State Daily that legless creatures were not her favorite, left the car during the incident. The snake’s presence did not lead to any reported injuries in the supplied account.
