‘Blobbing’ Athlete Soars 92 Feet to Set New World Record

A Swiss athlete has set a new world record in “blobbing,” a water-based stunt in which people jump onto a large inflatable airbag to propel another person skyward. Robin Steiner reached a peak height of 92.58 feet during the attempt in Brunnen, Schwyz, Switzerland, on Aug. 9, according to UPI Odd News. The launch was carried out by three other participants: Swiss man Luc Siegenthaler, German Lennart Florczak and American Tristan Kuhn. Their combined jump sent Steiner high enough to surpass the previous Guinness World Record for the sport. That mark was 72 feet and 2.14 inches, set in 2012. Adrian Baumann of experience provider Paintball Farm told Guinness World Records that Steiner first attended one of the company’s blobbing events about four years ago. Baumann said Steiner quickly took to the activity, and organizers soon recognized what they considered an exceptional ability. Steiner continued attending the events regularly before the group developed the idea of attempting a new record with him, Baumann said. The record-setting launch took place on a body of water, with the airbag serving as the mechanism that transferred the force of the three jumpers to Steiner. His measured peak of 92.58 feet exceeded the earlier record by more than 20 feet.
